Buying Guide: Battery Charger or Jump Starter?

They're often confused, but they do two different jobs. Here's which one to choose:

1. I need a Battery Charger/Maintainer if...

The car or motorcycle is left unused for weeks (winter/holidays). The maintainer connects to the power outlet and the battery: it sends controlled pulses to keep it healthy without ever overloading it.

2. I need a jump starter if...

You turn the key and the car is dead, and you need to leave immediately . The Booster is a portable "super-battery" that you connect to the terminals, give it a boost, start the car, and put it in the trunk. It doesn't recharge the battery, but it gets you home or to the auto electrician.

3. Power and Capacity

Always check the amperage (Ah) of your battery:

• Motorcycles and Scooters: 1-4 Amp Battery Chargers.
• Medium Cars: 6-10 Amp Charger.
• SUVs and Vans: 15-20 Amp or higher charger.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Can I leave the maintainer connected all winter?
Yes, "smart" or "maintenance" chargers are designed for this very purpose. Once they reach full charge, they go into standby mode and only restart if the voltage drops, protecting the battery.

2. Does the booster also start a truck?
It depends on the voltage. Cars use 12V , trucks 24V . You need to buy a specific 12/24V booster. If you connect a 12V booster to a truck, you'll burn it. If you connect a 24V booster to a car, you'll burn out the car's ECUs.

3. How long does a lithium booster charge last?
Modern lithium jump starters are tiny but powerful. They hold a charge for 3-6 months if not used, but we recommend checking the charge level every 3 months to ensure it's ready when you need it.
