1. What does it mean that the pump "also works with air"?

This means that if air bubbles enter the suction pipe (due to poor water flow in the well or a small leak), the pump doesn't shut down ("deactivate"). Thanks to the internal Venturi effect, the pump mixes the air with the internal water, expels the air from the outlet, and resumes pumping water. A normal pump would stop immediately.

2. Do I need to install the foot valve?

Even though they are "self-priming," installing a foot valve (or check valve) at the beginning of the suction line is highly recommended . The valve keeps the line filled, allowing the pump to deliver water instantly upon start-up without having to repeat the priming cycle each time (which can take up to 2-3 minutes).
