PROTECTIVE FILTRATION

Home water often contains foreign bodies such as sand, oxide flakes and coarse material in general which, if not adequately removed, can cause serious problems to the equipment and plumbing system.

These impurities can be adequately eliminated by installing protection filters upstream of the system to be protected in compliance with current regulations.

The current Technical Standards (UNI 8065, UNI 9182 and UNI EN 806-2) obligatorily require the installation of a mechanical protection filter.

Ministerial Decree 25/12 requires that the filters be easily washable, automatically or manually and that they are made with materials compliant with Ministerial Decree 174/04 ("Materials suitable for the treatment of water intended for human consumption").

Acqua Brevetti cleaning and self-cleaning filters are advanced versions of cartridge filters and are specifically designed for the protection of systems by eliminating coarse bodies such as small quantities of sand, flakes of rust and encrustations, processing scraps and pebbles.

All Acqua Brevetti filters are equipped with semi-automatic or automatic cleaning systems capable of guaranteeing quick and effective washing of both the filter cartridge and the jar.

The stainless steel construction makes the cartridge suitable for being subjected to washing or sanitization procedures.

The standard filtration degree of the filter cartridges used is 89 or 100 microns depending on the model.

SOFTENING FOR DOMESTIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL USE

The mineralization of the water is due to its underground path. The chemical composition of the water changes depending on the type of rocks crossed. Calcium and magnesium are two elements commonly present in the composition of natural waters and are responsible for the "hardness" of water. This term indicates the property of (hard) water to deposit calcareous encrustations in heat exchange devices and in general in plumbing systems, including household appliances.

The damage caused by hardness manifests itself particularly clearly where heat exchange processes occur which lead to heating of the water. Above 50°C, in fact, the calcium and magnesium salts present in the form of soluble bicarbonates are transformed into insoluble carbonates capable of precipitating, forming encrustations.

When the water is hard it is a good idea to carry out a softening treatment. The hardness value at which softening is essential depends on the type of application. In the case of hydro-thermal-sanitary systems, the UNI 8065 standard establishes that softening is mandatory for hardnesses above 15 °f (for systems with a thermal power of the hearth > 100 kW).

Regardless of the heat output of the hearth, softening treatment is still recommended if the hardness of the water exceeds 15°f.

When choosing the water softener, the fundamental hydraulic parameters that determine the choice are:

- Instantaneous flow rate: it is the maximum flow rate that can pass through the softener for which the exchange process is still guaranteed. If the softener is fed with a higher flow rate, the speed at which it crosses the bed is so high as to cause inevitable hardness leaks.

- Cyclic capacity: it is measured in m3x°f and represents the exchange capacity of the softener. This data is of fundamental importance in order to establish the interval between two subsequent regenerations.

Water softeners exist in two versions:

- Cabin or monobloc: they are the ideal solution for domestic applications as they are small in size. They are ideal for applications where low flow rates or limited cyclic flow rates are required.

- Double body: the tank and the column are two separate entities and constitute the ideal solution for applications where high peak flow rates or cyclic flow rates are required.

THE DOSAGE OF PRODUCTS

MiniDUE, MiniDOS and BravaDOS mechanical and electronic volumetric dosing pumps used to dose small quantities of anti-scaling and anti-corrosion product from the AcquaSIL® line in a proportional manner in hydraulic circuits for the protection of equipment (boilers, kettles, washing machines, dishwashers, etc.).

The AcquaSIL® line is a solution of food-grade mineral salts composed of raw materials compliant with the treatment of water intended for human consumption which are dosed in the quantity required by current regulations.

MiniDUE, MiniDOS and BravaDOS are the only valid solution for dosing anti-corrosion, anti-scaling polyphosphates in small domestic and technological applications.

The current Technical Standards (UNI 8065, UNI 9182 and UNI EN 806-2) provide for a chemical conditioning treatment; The equipment is made with materials compliant with Ministerial Decree n. 174/04 ("Materials suitable for the treatment of water intended for human consumption").

THE REFINEMENT OF DRINKING WATER

The water distributed by the water network, even if subjected to strict controls to guarantee drinkability, may contain substances that can make the taste unpleasant.

KITS are available to further treat the water at the point of use, making it good and pure, equipment such as osmosis and refrigerators are available to have light, smooth, fresh and sparkling water.

The advantages are notable: low cost, ease of use, no storage of bottles, no disposal of plastic or glass.

ANTISCALING AND ANTICORROSIVE FOR DRINKING WATER

Limescale encrustations and corrosion are crucial problems that afflict plumbing systems. Current legislation on energy saving requires taking measures against these problems which significantly reduce the efficiency and useful life of boilers and systems, causing energy waste. Not only. The recent Directive (EU) 2020/2184 (new water directive) recognizes that the release of lead into water from obsolete components in older domestic systems continues to be a problem for many buildings.

The proportional dosage of substances with anti-corrosive and anti-scaling effects is an effective and safe alternative to prevent limescale deposits (responsible for energy waste) and corrosion (cause of release of metals into drinking water), protecting the systems in sustainable and economical way.

Both the Decree of the Ministry of Economic Development of 26 June 2015 (Minimum Requirements Decree) and the UNI 8065 standard recognize the importance of chemical conditioning for achieving satisfactory energy performance in buildings and make its application mandatory.

Polyphosphates represent a safe and sustainable alternative to protect plumbing systems. Through a mechanism known as the "threshold effect", polyphosphates, if present in water in concentrations of a few mg/l, interfere with the growth and growth phenomena of encrustations. At the same time, polyphosphates create a protective film on metal surfaces that hinders the migration of metals (such as lead) into the water.

The products of the AcquaSIL® line are liquid solutions of polyphosphates specifically formulated to achieve an effective "threshold effect" already at very low concentrations (less than 3.5 mg/l as P2O5). Dosing with Acqua Brevetti equipment (MiniDOS, MiniDUE, BravaDOS, add or remove names) optimizes consumption, avoiding waste and maximizing yield. The stabilizing action and film-forming capacity of AcquaSIL® are effective with water having hardness between 5 °f and 35 °f and with instantaneous water temperatures up to 80 °C and storage temperatures up to 60 °C.

The products of the AcquaSIL® line meet the strict purity requirements established by the UNI EN 1212 standard relating to the requirements of products used for the treatment of water intended for human consumption.

The products of the AcquaSIL® line are not classified as dangerous for health or the environment according to current regulations (Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008 and subsequent amendments).

GUIDELINES FOR THE CORRECT TREATMENT OF WATER IN HEATING SYSTEMS (UNI 8065:2019)

NEW SYSTEMS

The idea that a new hydro-thermo-sanitary system is "clean" is profoundly incorrect. Inside the systems there are oils, welding fluxes and chips which can cause many problems during the life of the system. Oils and greases form insulating films that prevent the formation of protective oxides on metals and prevent corrosion inhibitors from carrying out their task. Chips can not only block the control parts (valve openings) and moving parts (circulator impellers) but can also be the cause of localized corrosion, even very serious ones. Soldering fluxes, being rich in salts, represent very widespread sources of corrosion.

For this reason, it is essential to always carefully wash even new systems.

Good washing should always be done using external recirculation pumps. Boiler circulators, in addition to not having the hydraulic characteristics necessary to provide sufficient mechanical force to perform a good wash, could suffer irreversible damage caused by chips and foreign bodies.

Washing of new systems must be carried out with AZ® 200 universal cleaner.

After circulating AZ® 200 for a sufficient and necessary time, drain the solution and rinse the system until all traces of dirt and cleaning solution are completely removed.

After having rinsed the system thoroughly, it is necessary to protect it using AZ® 100 universal protector.

It is always advisable to keep the protection level of the AZ® 100 product monitored throughout the year, using the specific analysis kit. If the level of protection is insufficient, it will be necessary to top up the missing product.

OLD SYSTEMS

When a heating system has remained in service for a long time, various substances can form inside it which can alter or even completely compromise its functioning.

Depending on the type of heating system, time and operating conditions, there are many foreign materials that can form.

In radiator heating systems, the formation of sludge and iron oxides can lead to total or partial obstruction of the radiators, causing partialisation. In the case of low-temperature systems, however, it is the micro-organisms that lead to the formation of mucilage which blocks the passageways of the pipes.

In all these cases it is necessary to use specific cleaning products. The chemical action of the detergent is generally insufficient to ensure adequate cleaning unless it is accompanied by an intense mechanical action offered by the BravoEVOLUTION PLUS external recirculation pump. It is also often necessary to concentrate the entire treatment flow rate on a single ring of the system.

Washing of old systems, radiator systems and low temperature systems, must be carried out with AZ® 200. The product must be kept in circulation for a sufficient time to guarantee the desired result.

After completing the cleaning, it is necessary to perform a thorough rinse until you obtain clean water free of foreign bodies and without detergent solution.

It is very important not to clean old systems with the boiler circulator; during washing operations it would be advisable to completely exclude the circulator (by-passing it or removing it temporarily).

After having rinsed the system thoroughly, it is necessary to protect it using AZ® 100 universal protector.

AZ® WATER ANALYSIS

As required by the UNI 8065:2019 regulation, it is mandatory to carry out annual checks on the chemical characteristics of technical water.
