Grundfos CME pumps represent the technological evolution of the CM series. These horizontal multistage pumps integrate a frequency converter (inverter) into the motor (MGE) that automatically adjusts the rotation speed based on water demand.

The Difference Between CM and CME: Why Choose Electronics?

Aesthetically they look similar, but their functioning is opposite:

The CM (Standard) always operates at 100% power. If you partially close the taps, you waste energy and increase the pressure in the pipes excessively.
The CME (Electronics) has a "brain." You set the desired pressure (e.g., 3.5 bar) and it adjusts the speed precisely. If you turn on just one faucet, it runs slowly and consumes very little. If you turn on the irrigation, it accelerates to maximum.

🔧 Requirements for operation

To use the "Constant Pressure" function, the CME pump must read the pressure in the pipes.
Always check that the model you choose includes a pre-assembled pressure sensor (transducer) . If you need to install it in an industrial system controlled by an external PLC, you can control it via a 4-20mA signal.

Please note: Like the CM series, the CME is NOT self-priming . Always install under water or with a perfectly sealed foot valve.

User Interface and Materials

The CME pumps are equipped with the Grundfos E-Solution control panel on the motor, which allows you to change the setpoint (the desired pressure) with a simple touch. They are available in the following versions:

CME-A (Cast Iron/Stainless Steel): For technical water and civil pressurization.
CME-I/G (All Stainless Steel): For drinking water and food/pharmaceutical industry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is an expansion vessel needed with the CME?

Yes, but very small. Thanks to the inverter, large 100-200 liter tanks are no longer needed. A small 8- or 18-liter expansion vessel is sufficient to compensate for micro-leaks and stabilize the pressure sensor reading.

Is it quieter than the regular version?

Yes. Because it rarely revs to its maximum (2900 rpm), the average noise level is significantly lower. Furthermore, starting and stopping are "soft" (Soft Start/Stop), eliminating noisy water hammering in the pipes.

How is it connected electrically?

The CME connects directly to the power line. No control panel, motor protection circuit breaker, or contactor is required. All the power and control electronics are already on board the motor.
